I don’t know why I am so bothered by this. It doesn’t matter. That said... So So there’s this cool new Audi commercial on a steep street in Pittsburgh. And of course all the commentariat are talking about whether or not it’s the steepest street, why it should or shouldn’t qualify....whatever.

For some reason, it bugs me that they have a clip of cyclists going up it that they’re trying to pass off as old-timey (complete with b&w and graininess and faux dirt on the film) .... when the cyclists are clearly modern cyclists. Just look at the bikes, the gear, the helmets, the sunglasses. Why the deception, Audi?

Just watched it with no audio but the black and white and film grain is being used to imply it’s a memory of something from the past. Not the distant past, just the past.

I think the idea was to emulate those infomercials where people would fail misreably at life in B&W footage. It might not have been an intentional idea, but still...

The girl I took to prom in 1996 lives in that neighborhood now. She posted about it on the book’o’faces.
